Description
Ready to work armed? Our Texas Level II + III Combined Training bundles both required security officer courses into one program, taking you from unarmed-eligible all the way to commission-ready. It is the most direct classroom-and-range path for people who already know they want to carry a firearm on duty.
Nighthawk Alliance is a veteran-owned, Texas DPS–licensed training academy (Texas Security Academy License #F31198401) based in Fort Worth and serving the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex and North Texas. This bundle is training toward your Texas security officer commission—we prepare you to qualify; the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) issues the license.
Who this combo is for
Choose the Level II + III bundle if you have decided you want to be an armed (commissioned) security officer rather than an unarmed one.
- New officers who want to carry a firearm while working, not just stand an unarmed post.
- Current unarmed officers upgrading to a commission.
- Anyone who wants the fastest single-enrollment route through both required courses.
If you are not sure you want to carry yet, start with Texas Level II training and add Level III later—you can always upgrade.
The combined path
Texas requires two distinct courses to work as a commissioned (armed) security officer, and this bundle delivers both in order:
- Level II — Non-Commissioned Officer Training. The foundational course every Texas security officer must complete. It covers your legal authority and limits, use of force, ethics, professional conduct, and field-note/report basics. Minimum course length is set by DPS [verify course hours with DPS/TOPS].
- Level III — Commissioned Officer Training. The armed-officer course required to carry a handgun on duty. It adds firearms law, weapon safety and handling, use-of-force decision-making, and live-fire handgun proficiency qualification. Minimum course length and range qualification standards are set by DPS [verify course hours and qualification standard with DPS/TOPS].
Completing both earns you the training certificates you need to apply for your commission through the Texas DPS Private Security Program.
What is included
- Both the Level II and Level III curricula, taught in sequence by our instructors.
- Classroom instruction on Texas security law, use of force, ethics, and officer conduct.
- Firearms instruction and live-fire handgun qualification for the commissioned (armed) portion.
- Guidance on next steps—how to submit your application and training documents through the Texas DPS TOPS portal.
- Certificates of completion for both courses upon meeting all requirements.
Ammunition, range fees, and any DPS application or fingerprinting fees may be separate. [owner to confirm what is included vs. billed separately.]
Save with the bundle
Booking the two courses separately costs $50 (Level II) + $200 (Level III) = $250. The combined bundle is a flat $230—so you complete the full armed-officer path and keep money in your pocket.
- Level II + III Combo: $230
- Level II only: $50
- Level III only: $200
Prerequisites
Because the Level III (armed) course involves firearms and a live-fire qualification, students must meet the state’s eligibility requirements for a commission. Plan to confirm the following before your class date:
- Meet the minimum age and legal eligibility to hold a Texas security commission [verify age and eligibility criteria with DPS/TOPS].
- Be legally eligible to possess a firearm under state and federal law.
- Be able to pass the DPS background check required for commissioned officers [verify with DPS/TOPS].
- Bring a valid government-issued photo ID. [owner to confirm any equipment students should bring, e.g., eye/ear protection or a firearm.]

FAQ
What is the difference between Level II and Level III?
Level II is the required course for all Texas security officers, including unarmed ones. Level III is the additional commissioned-officer course—covering firearms law, safety, and live-fire qualification—that lets you carry a handgun on duty. Armed officers need both.
Do I have to take Level II before Level III?
Yes—Level II is the foundation, and Level III builds on it. This bundle delivers both in the correct order so you do not have to book them separately.
Does finishing this course make me a licensed armed security officer?
No. This is the required training. After you complete both courses, you apply for your security commission through the Texas DPS Private Security Program using the TOPS portal, and DPS issues the credential once you meet all state requirements. We do not place students in jobs.
How much do I save with the combo?
The two courses cost $250 booked separately ($50 + $200). The combined bundle is $230, so you save $20 while completing the full armed-officer path in a single enrollment.
Is this course online or in person?
The combo is taught in person in the DFW area. The Level III portion requires hands-on firearms instruction and live-fire qualification, which must be completed on site.
What do I need to qualify?
You must meet Texas’s eligibility requirements for a commissioned officer, be legally allowed to possess a firearm, and be able to pass the required DPS background check [verify specific criteria with DPS/TOPS]. Call 682-285-9899 if you want to confirm your eligibility before enrolling.
